PSA: Hurricane Social Media Etiquette
Some tips that I have created by looking at my news feed in the past two days on Facebook. If you follow these things I think the social media world will become a little less panicked.
1. If you don't live in Florida and you aren't experiencing the lovely weather they are having, don't remind them how bad it will: be, get or is.
2. Most of the people that are simply hunkering down instead of leaving probably survived the Hurricane Season of ’04 and if they haven't this is their ‘Welcome to Hurricane Season’.
3. Yes this is a big deal, but it comes with living on a planet. Tropical cyclones/hurricanes are actually not all bad. They help maintain the global heat balance by moving warm tropical air away from the equator and towards the poles. Without them, the tropics would get a lot hotter and the poles a lot colder…just wait till the snow season.
4. Everyone is getting good vibes and prayers sent to them. This is obvious.
4a. Unless you don’t care about fellow humans, then you are sort of mean for not sending some positive thoughts to anyone affected by the weather.
5. So please sleep! Don’t stay awake worrying about everyone, because you have no real control of the weather, and if you do please have a conversation with Zeus and some other guys for them.
5a. Unless you are an insomniac, then don’t sleep. Watch a movie.
p.s. When/if shit hits the fan, trust me, they will tell us.
