Packing Essentials

Packing can be a stressful experience — especially if you are flying, since there are so many rules and regulations to remember. Also, if you are like me and pack the night before. January through March I am constantly traveling, and throughout the year I bounce around often. I still will never know what I want to wear, and I am not the master, but I have learned to pack efficiently and without missing the essentials.

Here are my packing tips that might help you next time you are going on an adventure:

1. Love Your Suitcase

Packing begins with pulling out your suitcase. If you love your suitcase you will be happier to get it out and fill it up. Mine is pink, lightweight, and expands if needed. I picked it up from Marshall's and it is really cute.

2. Mix & Match Your Wardrobe

Since I travel for work my outfits are pretty simple, a work shirt and a dark color pant, or jeans and a blazer. This makes the 'mix' in my wardrobe be my tops. I pack a basic colored tee, sleeveless blouse and a random top I currently love. I also take two outfits to workout in. I remember when I wen't on my very first work trip and my aunt told me to pack a pair of jeans, kakhis, some blouses, and a little black dress. "That way you are set for anything," she said. It seemed pretty simple and although I have modified her list I remember it always. Don't forget your under garments and pajamas!

3. Pick Your Shoes Wisely

While fashion is important, it isn't the runway. You really only need a few pairs of shoes. A pair that go with your work clothing, sneakers for working out, maybe a pair of flip flops, and whichever pair of shoes you are most comfortable in on your travel day and you can mix and match with your other items.

4. List The Small Stuff

Since packing can get overwhelming it helps to jot down a list to check off of toiletries, beauty products, and any electronics/chargers you want to have on your trip. That way you don't forget to grab them when you are in the gathering phase.

It is not an easy effort, but taking the time to pack well is rewarding in the long run. Also, if you are flying during the winter don't forget to take a decongestant and Emergen-C (I like the Emergen-C Immune+ in Super Orange) or Airborne, so you don't get sick or stuffy.
